Can't Turn Avast On

I just noticed that Avast been turned off.

I opened Avast and it says “The avast! antivirus program has been stopped, or is in an inconsistent state. Please restart the program to resume protecting your system.” right next to that message is “Start Program”. I clicked on the “Start Program” and nothing happened, I rebooted hoping maybe that will get it to start by itself and still nothing. I tried updating thinking maybe I missed an update but when I tried updating it said “Failed to update, the avast! service is not running”

Any ideas? Thanks.

did you try avast repair and reboot?

For a repair of avast.
Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

I tried that just now, I got message saying there’s an error reading the product’s data.

read it all…follow instructions and remove avast http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
install again and reboot

did that do it ?

that did the trick, was able to uninstall and reinstall and seems to working
