Can't turn on Avast / subscription issue

Hi,

Out if the blue Avast has turned itself off on my laptop. The Microsoft Action Centre gives me an option to turn it back on, but nothing happens. I’ve looked at my Avast settings as well and it states that I’m not protected. Again, there is an option to turn it on, but nothibg happens when I click on the option to turn it back on. Is something causing the problem or blocking it?

I don’t know if this problem is related to my subscription. I’ve had reminders that my subscription will end soon. Yesterday I was informed that it will expire in 13 days. So today I should have 12 days remaining.

I want to renew it, but wanted to wait a week (pay day!). I’ll be very annoyed if it has actually exired before the licence comes to an end.

Thanks.

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I have this problem too. A few days ago, Avast just turned itself off on my laptop. I don’t have a subscription, as I have the free Avast, but I keep getting a notification to ‘renew my subscription’!! I’ve tried turning it back on but nothing happens. So I tried to uninstall it - and that asn’t allowed either. I tried to repair it - still nothing. I even tried to download Avast again - that didn’t work either. I don’t know whether the problem is with my pc (had a lot of ‘updates’ recently…) or with Avast. I suspect it’s the recent updates which may have caused it, so tried deleting them - nothing. I can’t think of anything else to try!

Welcome to the forum.
See if the following tutorial is of help to you:

  • Which version…??
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV did you use before avast!..??

Thankyou for the replies, Bob and Asyn. Bob, thanks also for the welcome! I will watch the tutorial shortly; I’ll be grateful for anything that can help! Asyn, I’m a real technophobe, so don’t understand the technical terms or the ‘workings’ of a lot of things to do with computers and their software. I downloaded the free version of Avast on the recommendation of a friend in America - until then, I’d had Lavasoft - but deleted that before I downloaded Avast. Other than that, I only have Windows Defender, which came with my pc when I bought it. Up until a few days ago, I’ve never had any trouble. Hopefully the link provided by Bob will help me to understand a little better, and set things right. Thankyou both again for the prompt responses…

Ok - I’ve just looked at my computer details, and the version I have is Windows Vista, Home Basic; 32 bit operating system. Don’t know if that helps…

The directions in the video still apply.
