Can't unistall Avast

Hi
I will appreciate your help in this.
Something wrong is happening in my computer. None of Avast icons
are showing near the time clock. I’m trying to uninstall Avast to re-install
it but I can’t remove it from the add/remove page.
I did a hijackthis to delete it from there but I don’t dare to do it.
I also saw some files that says “no name” and “no file”.
Can you tell me how to uninstall Avast?

Please take a look at my hijathis.

Thanks for your help,

Hmm… did you try to reinstall it directly??..
Hmm… Or repair…
Without removing from ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS??

Hi Marcjessa

Without removing from ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS??

Yes, that’s where I can’t remove it.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard or OnGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?

Not being able to uninstall usually means a failed or corrupt install, possibly associated with the above. However, as you have had yours installed for some time I doubt that is the case.

I remember the marathon problem you had with an infected system and I wonder if there isn’t something else in the mix here.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD. Now uninstall, reboot, run the uninstall utility, reboot install the latest version of avast, reboot.

Hopefully that will restore your icons, if not we may have to look deeper.

Hi DavidR
My complements for such a sharp memory.

I will do that right now.

Just to check, can you take a look to the
hijackthis?

Hi DavidR
I already followed your instructions. Thanks

I’m posting my hijackthis at
http://www.techsupportforum.com/.
That’s the forum for the hijackthis.

Thanks for your help,

I am usually suspicious of these no name no file entries and would usually fix them, thought you can try googling the {identity number} including the squigly brackets.
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5BAB4B5B-68BC-4B02-94D6-2FC0DE4A7897} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

There are some that consider the crawler toolbar as adware (I think this comes with Spyware Terminator but you don’t have to install it.
O3 - Toolbar: &Crawler Toolbar - {4B3803EA-5230-4DC3-A7FC-33638F3D3542} - C:\PROGRA~1\Crawler\Toolbar\ctbr.dll

Other those I don’t see anything obvious.

Thanks a lot

I do have the Spyware Terminator installed.

I think I will delete the no name files.

Yes but there is normally an option not to install the crawler toolbar.

Fixing the two no name no file entries shouldn’t be a problem as hijackthis should make a back-up should you find you need to restore them, which I doubt.

Yes, Crawler will pay hard for the old times of it when it was associated with adwares.
Nowadays, good antispywares (like a-squared, AVG, Spyware Doctor, etc.) do not report is as being infected.
