I had the little blue popup come up from avast saying that a new version was ready to download, i clicked to download, but it said there was an error and could not complete.
Everytime i switch the pc on, i get a red pop up saying it had a problem and couldnt complete as couldnt connect to server?
I tried to download updates through opening avast on desktop, but says it cant.
Any idea why?
Thanks.
What is your firewall?
Check that it allows avast.setup acces to the internet.
One thing to concider is your internet connection. If your computer is not on all the time and/or you have your connection settings so that there is no connection until you start one, then you will get the red error box each time. This is because the avast program checks for updates shortly after computer startup and then again every 4 hours (I think).
I hope this helps you.
Thanks very much!!
I have checked my firewall and it was set to block all avast updates!!
Not only that but it was set to accept a virus that i couldnt get rid of which i had posted about in the virus and worm section, so hopefully you have helped me kill 2 birds with one stone!!!
Thanks!!
Glad we could help and hopefully you will have learned something along the way.
I am having the exact problem except that it started after I scanned with the latest update (0605-4, 02/01/06) VRDB 02/05/2006. I click to view details and get the update details (says 0sec.) Close that window and avast opens new window needing a system restart. Do that (and not) still unable to update, but can still scan. Now the windows system restore won’t work and asks for a system restart so I can’t uninstall to reinstall new version. Firewall settings are ok; I have ZoneAlarm and it is set to allow avast! access. I have windows me os and exceed the other requirements.
Any other ideas? Please helpp!!
I would suggest you remove the avast setup entry from the program control page of Zone Alarm then try an update .This will prompt another permission request and should refresh the entry. See if it works and report back if it doesnt.
good luck
