Can't update engine and virus definition anymore..

…for AVAST Free Antivirus since 17. December 2015.

When trying manually, it always stops after some time with that message:
“Last encountered error: Not enough storage is available to process this command. Total time: xx s”

It can’t be disk space, nor virtual memory - it’s all enough.

The thing is, that I am using Win XP 64-bit OS, and it was found out here at this Forum 2 or 3 years ago, that new program version 9 of AVAST doesn’t work with IE 8 (the last version with my OS). Therefor, I cannot upgrade and I stay with AVAST 8. (8.0.1497) Everything was well in the past, until that date.

Was there anything changed with AVAST 8 in last December? Or is version 8 not supported anymore? What can I do?

Please help!

Many thanks.

You need to install the latest avast version.

Yes, a newer version should help.

Hi,
and many thanks for replying.

The problem is, that any newer AVAST version (than version 8 ) gave an error with IE8,

res://ieframe.dll/acr_error in IE8,

see e.g. my post back in January 2014:

https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=144747.15

But the program version 8 worked fine. So are the updates for the virus definitions stopped now?

And was this error fixed in the mentioned AVAST 2016 version?

MS-DOS worked fine also

A lot have changed since 2014.
The latest avast version is working with Windows XP SP3 (and therefore also with IE8).

Note that XP 64bit, only goes up to SP2 and is based on windows 2003, so there may well be differences that have an adverse impact.

Whilst I try to avoid IE8 on this XP Pro SP3 system, avast and IE8 do work together, but I don’t install AOS on IE8.

Did you try it recently? It might be that we already fixed the issue. As for Avast 8, this is known issue caused by exhausting virtual memory during VPS update. It can be fixed by downloading and applying latest VPS manually but the problem can arise again.
