Hi David743

Have you tried to download - and install Avast Free 2016 over your current installation ?
You can download the full installer from here http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

Greetz, Red.

Hi Red,
Thanks for link but surprised at suggestion to instal on top of existing version. In past, avast have recommended running avastclear.exe to uninstal a version. But I am happy to give this a go since it should retain my subscription to secureline. Do you know if 2241 overcomes the dreaded freezing problem which is subject of many posts around Oct this year. Sorry, cannot find link but people were reverting to 2015 and 2018 to solve the issue. This is bugging me as well, only way out is to power down and surprisingly no problems on boot up as a result. It seems to occur if you try to restart OE or a browser, IE, Chrome, Firefox all subject to it. But seems to be confined to XP SP3. I am slowly making the transiiton to a second PC running Win 7 and then upgrading to Win 10. Not too good to still be running XP but it was a good system and after Win 8 debacle, want to wait before I go Win 10. Sorry for digression, thanks again, Dave

Don’t be surprised.
A update is basically installing a new(er) version on top of a existing one.

Don’t worry about your subscription(s).
They will stay just the way they are.

Thanks Eddy and Red, cheers Dave
