Hi, welcome to the forum.
Do you have any indication of malware, or any reason to think this is the cause of the update issue?
What was your last AV, and how was it removed?
What OS is it, and what firewall/any other security software is installed?
hi,
i have ashampoo firewall that has let avst have all alowances
the last avast was just an older version of which i dont know what one, but was removed only by add or remove function.
i also have advanced system proction aswell,
thats al i know as im trying to help a friend and they know very little as to what the install lol.
I’ve never used Ashampoo firewall, but have read of another user that was using it, couldn’t get the new version of Avast to update, and it was resolved by changing firewalls.
It’s the first things I would try regarding troubleshooting.
What on earth is advanced system proction? I Googled “advanced system protection” without conclusive results, so if you could post the url, or the correct name and product vendor, that might help.
Another thing to try would be a full uninstall, reboot, running of the Avast Uninstall utility (get it here), reboot, and a fresh install of the latest Avast version.
You’re sure the only other AV on the computer was an Avast version? (Find out the answers, let us know.)
yes!!!
i uninstalled ashampoo firewall and now it updated…thankyou very much for your help.
by the way, that other thing was 'advanced system protector.
do you advise any good free friewalls, comodo?
thanks again
In my personal opinion:
Comodo
Online Armour
PCTools
Outpost Firewall Free
ZoneAlarm
Personal Firewall Tests & Results. Firewall rating:

ty,
i actually downloaded zonealarm and its working fine…was told comodo dosent sit well with avast plus its a bit annoying.
thanks anyway.
Defense+ is a HIPS program.
Any HIPS program, by its nature, is a bit annoying. You can reduce the questions with a sandbox, behavior analysis, whitelist…
inflictor,
Advanced-System-Optimizer (ASO) also contained a non-advertized ZA firewall (on-demand) and is a bloated software. Many here have reported conflicts with ashampoo, and the fact that you are also running ZA FW with it presents a problem - you can’t run 2 AV’s or 2 FW’s at the same time.
Something light on your system to replace ASO is MBAM (Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware).
· Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ for an on-demand scanner.
· Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
· After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
· Under Settings:
o General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o Scanner Settings: Check all boxes
o Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
As for a FW, the ones mentioned by Tech are ones that seem to play well with Avast. Don’t go by the ratings or the leak tests as these are outdated at this point. You can always do a free trial with any of these companies and test them out for yourself and do your own leak tests. Everyone’s machine, OS, security setup is different, so what works for you may not work for someone else.
ty
id already uninstalled asp,and i put on antimayleware and super antispyware.
plus zonealarm fw…all is working well now!
Glad it’s all good.
Don’t hesitate to post again if you’d like any more info.
ty, will do!
inflictor,
Glad things are fixed for you.
