No proxy, no firewall, no dialup - direct ADSL.

Hi and welcome
Is it possible your subsciption is outdated? I presume your adsl is working correctly for everything else?
the search funtion here is very simple and might find you an answer faster than any other means.

Strange that return code if it is a windows one 0x ‘0000A410 - The operation completed successfully’ obviously not. When did this happen, e.g. shortly after boot, etc. ?

If not shortly after boot, try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this. Then try a manual update.

No firewall on direct ADSL, you really like to live dangerously even if you have a router with incorporated firewall. Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.

keep getting a notice that my sub is expiring, and needs to update, am currently running version 4.7, says my license key is about to expire or expire, when i rely i get to my-free-software.com and must pay for a membership to get new key. when i log into avast.com get a blank page. help.

The my-free-software.com site has nothing to do with avast, so there is something very strange going on here.

What does about avast show your expiry date as ?

Check your system date, especially the day, month and year and correct if required.

What do you mean by logging on to avast.com, you shouldn’t need to log-on ?
What do you mean by a blank page, what error is it, 404, etc. ?

First, DavidR, thanx for the clue, I’ve manage to get i running, in different way, had some trouble and here’s what I have done:
I used the Bulgarian interface pack, and at first it said can’t open, or load skin, or something similar. A found in the FAQ the problem and solved as described.
After restart, there was no icon in the tray, so I started it manually. All the services were installed, running, but still could not make any changes to the level of defence …
There was nothing for avast in the RUN section in the windows registry, so I entered the value manually.
There was nothing for avast in thе add-remove programs.
And still could not update it - automatically or manually - no way.
So performed a manuаl delete - all the avast related keys in the registry (there were some), all the files in the instalation directory, stopped the services.
Downloaded and installed the English version, and everything went smooth and now is OK and working well - including updates
Still do not know what happened during the installation process, was it my Windows, or something else - for me it is enough, that the program is up and running.
Best regards!

Hello or Здрасти ;D
Why don’t you use the Bulgarian language pack anymore? From what I read, I am pretty sure that the problem was not in the language pack ::slight_smile:

Hi
It doesn’t bother me - I’m familiar with English language, and certainly do not want to be testing and disturbing a stable running system - no matter where the problem was, I’m glad it was … not exactly solved, but not present eny more.

OK, as you wish ;D But just a small hint - usually you don’t have to have troubles with switching languages (from the settings window) ;D 8)

Good advice from XMAS of where possible keep the language version the same as your Windows language settings as on occasion you get some strange graphic/text results. However if your happy that all that matters.

A belated welcome to the forums.
