Cant use Avast mobile with Galaxy S3

Hello guys!

I am unable to use avast mobile security (including anti theft) with my Galaxy S3 for the following reason:

→ When it is installed it freezes my phone several times a day (1,2,3 up to 6). Also make it slower, apps stop to respond normally.
→ Sometimes the freezing happens up to 10 minutes then it come back to normal. Other times it stays a lot longer so I have to restart the device.

Other info

→ I first tought that it was a problem with my phone, however after recoverying to the factory settings, the problems come back after installing avast.
→ When I uninstall it, my phone starts to respond normally and the freezes go away… I can use my phone for days/month without a delay or freeze.
→ When I install other anti-theft, security solutions, no delay is found in my device and no freezing happens.

I am using Android 4.1.2.

What may I do to find out whats happening?

Thanks!

I confirm, phone freezes and stop to respond normally.

Hi,

so it happens immediately after you install Mobile Security? You don’t change any settings? You don’t even install Anti-Theft?

Filip

Hello Filip!

When the anti theft is installed alone, no problem happens. Theres no delay using apps and the mobile dont freezes.
So it seems to be a problem related to the antivirus module.

When the antivirus is installed (The only things I do are: add the account, define a PIN to protect Avast access and others softwares against uninstalling).

Right after the installation, my mobile starts to lose performance, and the apps starts to have a delay in their response. It gets worses during the time. The freezes are random. But usually happens in the next 24 hrs after installation. Some days freezes just one time. Other days 2 times. Once, it has freeze 6 times only in the morning.

After the uninstall, everything gets back to normal again.

Thanks!

Hi,

OK, can you disable PIN protection, App Locking, shut down all the shields and restart your phone? Let’s see if that makes any difference.

Filip

Hello Filip!

I installed Avast Antivirus again (Anti theft was already installed), my steps were:

1- Disable all active shields (Application Module, Internet Module, SMS Module and File Module)
2- Disable PIN Protection (disabling the App locking as well)
3- Restart the Phone.

I will be using the phone for sometime and checking out its behavior…

I will post my finds later.

Thanks!

Hello Filip!

Here is my feedback after using avast for almost 48hrs:

1- I have perceived that the phone had lost (little loss) performance. The apps has been a little slow in response (however was much better than with the shields running and pin protection on)

2- The phone has frozen in 2 ocasions. The first one it was charging, when I did try to use it, it was frozen and has rebooted as soon as I clicked the home button. The second one (30 hours later) I was openning an application called taxi beat (to call a taxi) and when it start to try to locate me using the GPS, the mobile has frozen.

Overview:

After disabling the shields and the Pin Protection, it has reach a better performance than it had with the shields and Pin protection enabled. However it still had some impact in performace, and make my phone frozen in 2 ocasions in +/- 48hrs.

Last week I did a set up my phone with another security solution (+ avast anti theft), without any system impact in performace nor freezing. It has been running for 7 days without any problem, until I installed the avast mobile to make this tests and perceiced the 2 problems described above.

Thanks for your time!

Hello,

Thanks for your time!

But could this update affect android 4.1.2 (I am not using 4.3)?

Thanks!

Hi,

I’ll leave this be for the moment and will hopefully get back to you in next weeks to debug your problem more.

Filip

Yes, or may be the update to 4.3 could solve the problem
