I had to do a system restore on my pc (sp3 xp) and registration key will not work again. Suggestions?
Hello jst4040,
Thank you…
Which version do you use? Home/Pro
How do you mean, ‘will not work’?
Any error messages?

I copied and pasted the original activation key to register after having to do a system restore. I was notified that it was not a valid key code. I have Avast 4 Professional Edition.
Is the system time and date correct?
Are you logged on as an administrator?
Does the following help:
http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/insert_key.htm
http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-invalid-license-number.html

Those links aren’t helpful because I have already entered the registartion key code successfully once. It worked fine. My computer shortly after that would not load the operating system, and I chose to do a system restore. After I did the restore, I logged on to the avast website, retrieved my original registration key, and when “cut and pasted”, the the registration key was rejected due to the fact that it had already been used once successfully.
Was this the error message?
You may have to send an email to sales(at)avast(dot)com and explain your predicament (maybe also link to this thread)
error message:
Invalid Liscense number
What about these:
If not, i’m not quite sure what else, besides emailing the sales team at avast!
EDIT:After searching the forum a bit, it seems people are also suggesting a clean re-install:
For a re-installation of avast!:
VERY IMPORTANT - Do not uninstall avast! yet, follow the instructions
- Download the most recent version of avast!
Make sure to download the Full setup file, NOT the ‘universal installation file’ - Download the avast! Un-install Utility
- Disconnect from the net
- Uninstall avast! through ‘add/remove programs’
- Reboot into safe mode and run the avast! un-install utility
- Reboot
- Install the the latest version of avast!
- Re-connect to the net.
