CastleCops no more

Greetings Folks,

You have arrived at the CastleCops website, which is currently offline. It has been our pleasure to investigate online crime and volunteer with our virtual family to assist with your computer needs and make the Internet a safer place. Unfortunately, all things come to an end. Keep up the good fight folks, for the spirit of this community lies within each of us. We are empowered to improve the safety and security of the Internet in our own way. Let us feel blessed for the impact we made and the relationships created.

With respect to the server marathon, by March 17 2009 CastleCops will refund contributions made through PayPal that were specifically designated for servers. Unfortunately, server donations made via check cannot be returned because we do not have the addresses for the donating entity. Unless instructed otherwise, CastleCops will re-allocate these funds as a donation to the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC.org). This organization sponsored our hosting environment for approximately the past 2 years. Please contact us [cc at laudanski dot com] before March 17, 2009, if you would like a return of your server marathon donation. Otherwise, we would like to thank the ISC for their unfettered support.

We thank everyone in creating our unique footprint and memories in time.

Love, Best Wishes and Happy Holidays, CastleCops

Hi “oldman”,

That is certainly a blow to the malware fighting family. This domain was a reservoir of hope against the dark forces on the Net, hope it one day may arise as the Phoenix from it’s ashes. This site cannot replace the beloved resources of CastleCops, but we still have this: http://www.systemlookup.com/
Who can mention more alternative resources for malware forensics?

your co-malware-fighter,

Damian

Wow … this is going to be a great lose to all of us. :frowning:

Yes bad news, and isn’t this the second such service to bite the dust recently ???

Or is this just me remembering seeing something about this before.

David,

Yes, someone recently posted the premature demise of CastleCops.

HpHosts forum bit the dust recently due to malevolent attacks:
http://forum.hosts-file.net

Here is the link to the premature demise of CastleCops.

Evidently somebody had some insider knowledge.

Hi rdmaloyjr,

Was it true that one of the main characters behind CastleCop now is being working for Microsoft’s?
I heard that through the grapevine, re: http://iggyz.com/?p=4124

pol

>:(Yeah this is a great loss to the people who loves malware fighting but I have an alternative site like www.filesearchcenter.com by superantispyware ;D

Maybe this site could help sometimes …

I like WinPatrol:

I like the http://www.systemlookup.com/ site, in fact there is a firefox add-on that makes various malware searches easier to initiate, it is innovatively called Malware Search (currently version 0.8.5).

Hi folks,

I hope not all the good security sites are going to be shut down now. Remarkable that the archives of CastleCops also vanished completely, there was an enormous amount of valuable information there. So who is gonna sit on that, Laudansky? It is said that all info of CastleCop went to http://www.systemlookup.com/

polonus

Hi Polonus,

It’s possible that SystemLookup got the info. A lot of the data was the same, with the same links for further investigation. CC smetimes though, had info the SL didn’t. I certainly hope that the data base was moved or distributed to other sources.

As far as using SAS or WP data bases, remember these are program specific and not quite as comprehesive as the one at SL.

Hi oldman,

Also this is still there: http://www.malwareinfo.org/
Worth a visit for malware fighters,

polonus

FYI, SystemLookup is indeed the new home for the Lists, and has been for a number of months.

The site was generously made available to us by Javacool, and it contains every single entry from Castlecops.

The Lists are being updated throughout the day by an editing team currently consisting of the following members of the anti-malware community:

Marckie
Metallica
miekiemoes
nasdaq
random/random
Rorschach112

Happy Holidays and all the best for 2009 to everyone at Avast forums

Thanks very much for the feedback Tony, keep up the valuable work you do, it is much appreciated. I use the lists quite a lot in trying to help others in this forum.

A Happy New Year to you.

You’re very welcome, David, and no prob at all: it’s what we enjoy doing.

I happened upon this thread by accident, and I thought it would be a good idea to confirm that, despite the tragic demise of the CC Forums as well as of the PIRT and MIRT initiatives, the databases are fortunately alive and well

Best regards,

Tony

That is good news regarding the databases.

Season’s Greeting everyone.

quite sad … CC wiki got lot of interesting pages and also forums were quite full of informations …
