Running windows xp 32bit. Computer will not boot, in either normal or safe mode.
I’ve downloaded FRST but i’ve never used it before.
I’d appreciate if someone could walk me through the steps.

I’ve looked around and found other instances of this but it would appear that each fix requires specific coding, that there’s no universal fix.

TY Sir, I may have to leave from work soon, but if there’s any preliminary stuff I can do at home I’ll work on that until I get back in tomorrow at 9 AM eastern time.
Hi I will need to know what the windows version is and whether it is 32 or 64 bit
Also do you have the windows CD
KeyWord 32 Bit essex.
Duh :-[ OK do you have the recovery console installed on this computer ?
I’m not sure, unfortunately. I didn’t build or set up this computer.
How should I go about checking if it’s installed?
If you do not know then you do not have it
Download Peazip to the desktop
Run and install the programme
As it installs this page will show, deselect the AVG ticks
Press decline and it will then install cleanly
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/peazip.jpg
Download the following files to the desktop … Right click the links and select save as…then select desktop
Right click OTLPE on your desktop and select …Open as archive
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/Unzup%20archive.png
Select OTLPE standard
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/select%20archive.PNG
Click Extract, ensure that desktop is selected
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/extract%20archive.PNG
Insert the USB stick Then run Rufus

Select the ISO file on the desktop via the ISO icon.
Press Start Burn

Once the USB has burnt then
[*]Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to the flash drive.
[*]Reboot your system using the boot USB you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from USB follow the steps here
[]As the Programme needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
[]Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
[]Locate the flash drive and run FSRT
[]The tool will start to run.

[*]When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
Everything went quite smoothly. The tea helped. ;D
Attached is the FRST.txt log which was generated.
Hi first we will try a restore point
Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST as before and press Fix
On completion then try a normal boot
How about a “fix list”? I was asked to press the fix button and was prompted to create a “fix list”
It is attached to my last post at the bottom. Click that and select save then save it to the same location as FRST
Not recognizing the USB at the boot.
You are using the same USB as previously which allowed you to get to the reatogo desktop
Yes, same configuration. No changes. Getting agrivated. Problems on our end not yours.
Also, it goes through the Bios boot shows the main drive and then cuts to SAFE MODE screen then onto the Windows XP intro before going to the “Blue Screen of DEATH.” Then just like in the movie “Groundhog Day” it repeats, over and over and over… :o
Could you confirm that the BIOS has not reset from USB boot
My apologies, I left instructions to follow with a different tech to continue where I left off. I assumed he might indicate this.
I’m going to pick up where he left off and see if I can produce a different result for booting.
EDIT:Booted fine, he must have missed the prompt for booting from USB.
Fix ran perfectly fine.
Booted into XP operating system. An error popped up reading “cannot find C:/Program” but didn’t halt the startup.
Are there any further steps I should take other than uninstalling Avast?
Fixlog is attached.
OK we will need to remove Avast cleanly … Can you confirm you had V8
Download Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel
[]Run aswClear
[]It will offer to reboot to safe mode … no need to do that
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/aswclear.JPG
[*]In the Select Product to Uninstall dropdown choose the version of Avast that is on your system.
[*]Press Uninstall
[*]Once complete reboot your system to Normal Mode
[*]Reinstall Avast
