I had an old version of CCleaner installed (I think v4.1) and didn’t want to update, but today after booting, I had v5.41 installed and it autostarted itself.
What is happening… it behaves like malware!??
I have also Avast Free 12.3.2280 installed. Maybe that is the problem, as Piriform is part of Avast? Of course I have not activated the auto-update in Avast, but I know from the past, that Avast was the only software installing things on my machine without asking me, so I guess Avast is again guilty, trying to support Piriform?
I installed CCleaner 2013 and never changed any setting, and now, after 5 years it is autoupdating without my consent!
I already knew that fact… the question is: Who forced me to update CCleaner, although I didn’t want!? And changed the settings of the new version of CCleaner also (autostart, system surveillance - I don’t want it!)
Is it again Avast Free that installed an update without asking the user!? Any more people with that problem?
Update:
After reading your link, Alikhan, I have to say: AVAST is a BIG BULLSHIT!!!
I will tell every friend of mine NOT to use this incredible MALWARE Antivirus!
I want Avast to leave my software in peace with updates!
I don’t want to be a CCleaner tester or help to improve CCleaner! Stop forcing me!
I am also having this issue and use Avast for a long long time. Before everything was fine.Maybe it’s time to say avast “goodbye” as well Ccleaner, avast mobile etc. Maybe next time Avast automatically update my Windows or Android without my knowledge or other programs. It’s outrageous that without my permission Avast update program not being part of it and no informing about it !!!
Do not give up on CCleaner yet. Try the portable version but good luck finding any obvious link to that now on the CCleaner web site pages you’re mostly likely to visit.
It is still available but you have to search (Google) specifically for the portable version which is, as it always has been, available here under “Builds”. But where the “Builds” link that used to be on the main CCleaner or Download page is now who knows? I certainly couldn’t find it; its almost as though they do not want you to.
If what you download isn’t a .zip then it is almost certainly the foistware installer version.
Fingers crossed that an avalanche of CCleaner user swapping to the portable one doesn’t encourage AVAST to remove the choice not to update that as well.
Thanks for that ^ but where is the actual link to the portable version download on the CCleaner web site?
If you go to back to the CCleaner download page the only obvious options there are the ‘pro’ version and standard ‘free’ version. If you click on the latter you’ll get the installer (.EXE) version only.
Yes, thanks I understood that, but in my earlier post I had also provided a link to the CCleaner “Builds” page so that people here could make the choice of which version, installer or portable, to download.
My post was therefore not about getting the portable version, it was primarily about making the observation that there are apparently now no links to the “Builds” page anywhere on the CCleaner web site. AVAST seem to be deliberately hiding it and therefore anyone going there is not going to realise a portable version is available.
Short of discovering this thread and using the links we’ve provided it seems the only way of finding “Builds” and the portable download now is an external search. I’d find that extraordinary if I was not as cynical as I am.
