CCleaner the recommended program to clean the crap from your
computer, now comes in a version that installs crap itself. A Yahoo toolbar is installed in your browser, and there are additional accounts opened up inside your e-mail program.
Look here: http://www.softpedia.com/progViewOpinions/14-4-131,.html
Some people do not tolerate the Internet without streaming ad-, pop-up and pop-under delivery, there is almost no escaping them now, next thing is they are going to circumvent Adblock programs.
How could I expect less. You had mentioned it in the updates section. You earned a pat on the shoulder there, Bob.!
But because I think it is such an elemental thing, we have to mention it here too. It is just an inescapable tendency, in Europe everybody than responds with a saying like: “Ït is because of the market structures”.
Besides you mentioned the toolbar sneaking in there, but some can have their e-mail accounts rejected, because of the additional
accounts made. I am polishing up my Ad blockers and Pop-blockers, the webmasters are just getting over-greedy.
Hi Polonus
As mentioned at the following website, http://mysharedfiles.no-ip.org/CCleanerCaution.html
they have now come out with a version that does NOT contain a toalbar.
Just bear in mind that the auto-update does NOT give you a choice and defaults to the
version which contains the toolbar.
(With enough pressure, this might also change… ;D)
I saw this toolbar issue in the Updates thread as mentioned by Bob, and ensure that when updating I don’t get the toolbar version or do a custom install to avoid it. CCleaner is not my primary cleaner that falls to ClearProg - Temp File Cleaner
Thanks for the alternate adware free links. My proggie of choice is UrlCache Explorer, where you can work per group and per item, you have information on every item (very detailed) in your cache (Cookie; History & Internet Files) for info and download see here: http://www.thecodeproject.com/shell/urlexplr.asp
IMHO there isn’t any need for an alternative.
Either uncheck the option for the toolbar or,
Choose the setup file that doesn’t contain the toolbar in the first place.
CClearner is still the same great program it always was.
The choice is yours and they are upfront about it - it is not hidden in the EULA - it hits you in the face fair and square, plus free software does take time and effort to construct, and if this defrays the cost of a nice bit of software who am I to argue
All points are very valid however how many people/users especially inexperienced or new users read the EULA when the next button will get the job done.
I for one have been caught by the doh! button in a rush to install a program only to find something new
and unwanted
But then again I think, couldn’t it be that CCleaner put on the Yahoo toolbar for its anti-spyware qualities? And if that is so, we can put everything in a different light. There must also be room for positive thinking,
Ehhh… the Anti-Spyware on the Yahoo Toolbar is the worst I’ve tried. It deleted some System files and I was unable to boot to windows. The loading process would freeze in the middle. that was over a year ago but still. I’ve stayed away from Yahoo. :
