Hi,

IS there a cd inside ?
if not, what happens if you put one in ? can it be read properly ?
are there any alerts/errors in deviceManager or error/event-Log ?

you could also try an onlinescan with RAV or Trend (see below; pause avast shield(s) for this)

there is no cd inside
also forgot to tell that the cpu has been locking up,having to reboot about 6 times in one hour of use.

thinking this could be a virus,or the start of the end for machine i tried to burn pic to cd,got about 25% done machine locked up.

restored c drive from back up for this post so far so good.

going to try trend mico scan and see what happens.

when was the last time you updated the BIOS? How old is the machine it could be the end for it.

update the bios?
I have it set to boot floppie, hard drive,cd.
if this is what your asking
and the machine is about 4 years old, with 6 years worth of miles on it.between me and the wife the keyboard get a workout

ronzoil, what maclover means is to actually update the bios. The bios has a version ex. mine is 1.0.0.1232 i can update it to 1.0.0.1239
your motherboard manufacturer makes these updates avaliable, they add support for new hardware and fix problems with current hardware this could be the problem with your drive

first the report

after running the system restore disk,my machine would not id the modem.

so i put a new modem in and so far so good.

and as far as updating the bios, you will have to tell me how to go about that,i know in the 4 years i have had the machine i have not done so.

  1. find the model of your otherboard
  2. find out the manufacturer’s website
  3. search the website for your models bios update
  4. the installer will give you exact instructions

ususally it reboots the computer and performs the update the reboots agian and then loads windows normally
