I have been running Avast for about three months and love it. Lately, with new versions, I notice my icon rotating when I open local programs such as Word or Excel. Since they are programs on my local drive I do not want to waste time scanning them.
Do nor remember seeing this before, where may I turn this “local drive” scanning off leaving internet and mail on.
Thank you
Mel
Well… viruses (.exe) will be programs in your local drive too…
Which is your Standard Shield security level? High or Normal?
You can even use Customize level and disable the open/changed/created files but, for sure, you shouldn’t disable the .exe scanning.
Not sure I understand your reasoning “Well… viruses (.exe) will be programs in your local drive too…” There are no viruses in my local drive now and if Avast checks everything incoming it will stay clean so why check ANY program loading from hard drive.
If I turn off standard shield will I lose protection from threats comming from on-line?
Mel
Welcome to the forums, Shakey.
Perhaps you should explain why you want to do this so we’ll understand better.
BTW, not all malware comes from the internet.
With the default settings. But if you disable it intentionally, avast won’t be able to do its job.
Sure, Standard Shield is the core of the antivirus, without it, no antivirus at all.
