Changing DNS Servers on my internet

Hey everybody, long time no speak! ;D

My internet service provider’s Dns servers been going down a few times lately I am wanting to know is it best to change it via router or via my laptop in the settings and stuff?

Also which DNS server do you recommend the 8.8.8.8 (google’s one) or the openDns? I am open to your opinions!

anybody?

Your version of avast is realy outdated we are now running 2015.10.0.2208 and firefox is now 34.0

My signature is out of date I’m about to update it…

I’ve been using OpenDNS for quite some time.
OpenDNS is very reliable and is never down.
If one node goes down another node picks up the traffic.
There has been a time or two when the Tyler, TX. node was down and my connection was
switched to go through Chicago, IL. Best of all it’s free.

edit: Keep in mind your internet still goes through your ISP.

It might be me but it looks like OpenDNS has more nodes/data centers than a few months ago. 8)
Talk about increased reliability, OpenDNS has it.

I’ve sung the praises of OpenDNS for a very long time. That song has only gotten louder over the years.

I also praise OpenDNS. You not only use the domain which in my case are faster than my ISP, but you have a way to control what you want to browse through its dashboard. Really good when kids are involved and you want to restrict certain web sites.

I too would recommend OpenDNS - my only problem is that I can’t use it with my BT Internet (HomeHub) router.

Open dns definitely. Google goes to 2,000 ping randomly a few times a month. Open dns is always around 20ms.

Personally i would use avoid the family safe dns unless that’s what your looking for and just use the normal two.
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (not sure if this is right, it’s from my head)

Some others to consider are comodo dns
Or 4.2.2.1 through 4.2.2.6 (forget who owns them)

A third option is to download dns jumper or similar program and see whigh otions are quickest for you.

On a support forum, not being sure mean either look it up or don’t post.
You happen to be right:

Thanks all for your opinions! I am now using OpenDNS I changed it through windows not on my router for now…

It seems better to use this then the one my ISP had set… The other night that one went down and stayed down for 3 hours… It made me mad at the time… Again thanks for the opinions!!

Today,I switched from OpenDNS to YandexDNS because OpenDNS is blocking any.gs
(redirect ad site) used by some video sites and I cannot reach links on file hosts. It says that any.gs
is pornography site.I already use AdsBypasser userscript and I don’t even see any.gs.
OpenDNS is also blocking real porn sites.I don’t understand,I am not registered and I am using free
version without any filtering.
At least,NSA is not spying me anymore. Now I am being spied on by FSB.

If you are just adding OpenDNS IP to your Internet protocol that might happens. You need to register and access the dashboard to customize the filter. Also if you happen to have a Dynamic IP, you need the updater, or at least in my case it did not work right until I installed the updater.

It was working fine until today. I am not going to register. That is just another tool
for tracking.
YandexDNS Safe is fine,5-6 milliseconds slower than OpenDNS for my location.

BTW I am using DNS Jumper.

That’s all I have is the updater.
