My new Dell Windows 8.1 computer came with a McAfee 30 day free trial. I would like to switch to the free version of Avast. Should I download Avast before my McAfee trial expires or after. I have read that it would be bad to have two antivirus programs on my computer at the same time.
I have read that it would be bad to have two antivirus programs on my computer at the same time.yes, very important that you uninstall it and then use McAfee removal tool to clar all leftover files that may conflict
see here http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle
as extra scanner i can recomend Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.com
if you use removable drives, this is recomended MCShield www.mcshield.net this is a install and forget program…
Yes, make sure that you uninstall McAfee, but most important is to use the MCPR tool after that.
If you do not use that tool you will have problems.
Download and run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool: Download the MCPR tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe and save it to a folder on your computer.
The order is the thing to watch - download avast and save it to your hard disk (where you can find it again) before you uninstall McAfee. That way you aren’t on-line without protection - uninstall McAfee as advised above and reboot - now install avast.
Download location for avast! Free AV: - http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
