Is it possible to change the location of where Avast puts the Virus Chest? I have my main drive divided up into partitions and to prevent any possible free space problems I’d like to relocate the Virus Chest to another partition. I suspect it would normally be placed in either the program files folder or in the system drive. In the settings portion of Avast 5 there are a lot of new settings which I love but didn’t see any possibility of changing the virus chest location or even where it’s located.
No the chest is located in the same area as the avast5 folder they both have to be the same (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\chest, XP location). So it isn’t in the Program Files folder. You can however, do a custom install and install avast in a different partition to the default.
Given it isn’t in the programs files folder as it used to be with avast 4.8, I don’t know if the chest and associated avast5 folders in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\chest would move from that location even if you installed avast in a different location to the default C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5 location.
But it begs the question why would you want to move the avast chest to a different partition ?
To all intents and purposes it is going to be empty unless your system is heavily infected, so I can’t see the benefits in moving it.
Windoze 7 puts the chest in the C:\Program Data\Awil Software\Avast 5\Chest folder. The Avast5 Program I installed on a separate partition but windoze still puts in a program data folder on the C drive which I wanted exclusively for the OS. Turns out that’s not the case. Oh well. I’ll just make sure I don’t catch any viruses. LOL!
I’m probably more likely to review what’s in the chest at least twice a week and delete all the files from it.
