This may have been asked before, but a search of the forum didn’t provide any relevant results.
I’m trying to change the directory for the log files from my SSD (Primary Drive (OS)) to my HDD (Secondary Drive) to eliminate excessive writes. Is this possible, and if so how?
Not possible as far as I know, if you start moving the internal parts of programs into different places than their supposed to be then you can expect to screw up your system.
The writes aren’t going to affect your SSD’s life span and you can disable restore point creation which is the worst offender, I can’t remember where I read this but generally an SSD can handle 8Gbs of writes per day over a period of 8 years.
Well mine is disabled via the settings set by Samsung Magician program for my SSD optimisation but yes you can also disable restore points from control panel/system/system protection.
Note that if you disable restore points creation you need to be thorough on making images on another drive in the case of system failure.
Your welcome, your SSD should have an optimisation program available which will do all this for you.
Other things that can and are disabled by my Optimisation program are Hibernation Mode - Indexing Service/Search, Virtual memory can be set to a minimum of 200Mb / Maximum of 1Gb.
Yea I use the SSD Magician software also. We are actually using the same SSD. I believe I’m using its Optimization feature already, but I’ll have to go back and check because its been a while since I’ve run the program. Thanks.
Ah cool 8), set the optimisation to maximum reliability and the newest release of the Magician program has Rapid mode which can increase speed dramatically and you’re done ;D
