I took out a Premium Avast security a couple of years ago using PayPal as the payment method. I’m no longer with PayPal (after a stranger entered my account and removed money from my bank account), so I need to change the payment method to my Visa card. So easy elsewhere, but not here. The customer service link comes up blank at each link.
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Whilst you used PayPal for the payment method - who did you actually purchase Avast Premium from ?
As that is where your payment details would be held and where you would need to change you payment method.
The reason I say this is one large company Digital River that handles payments for many companies has filed for bankruptcy.
As David said, did you buy direct from avast or elsewhere and who did you pay.
Easiest way i found was this.
Log into your avast account portal https://avast-uk.nexway.com/
update payment details
@MrDJ
Nexway is one partner among many, but the link you posted is not the link for the universal avast account, and if you did not purchase avast through Nexway, you will not be able to log in.
In my case, it is a PayPal payment with Digital River, so Nexway will not recognize me.
You need to follow the FAQ to find out how the last payment was made.
Otherwise, to change your payment method depending on whether you purchased from avast or a partner, you will also need to follow the same FAQ.( Update your payment details)…Nexway is just one option, not the only one.
As for Digital River (which went bankrupt, as DavidR mentioned), payment information could previously be changed via your avast account (the real one).

In response to user2944, if the purchase was made via Digital River PayPal, I am unable to change my payment method from PayPal to a credit card, as there is no “update” button in my payment center, as indicated in the FAQ.
Thanks @chris… for the explanation.
i had no idea there was multiple accounts and all i could suggest was what ive always used since 2013
Its also difficult as we have no idea what country or payment members use when previously paying for a licence.
MrDJ, I’m in Australia - through Digital River - Avast Premium. It’s still working, as it’s due for renewal in February 2026. Thanks everyone for your assistance, but I still do not have an answer as to how I change from Paypal to Visa for my payment with Avast. Managing my payment in the Payment Centre doesn’t allow for me to do this. It just tells me my payments are up to date. I’d like to change the method of payment now, so there’s no problem in February when it comes due. Given the fact that Digital River has gone, maybe I should just let the account go when February (due date) comes around. I appreciate your assistance but there doesn’t seem to be a solutuion to this problem.
This is what I would have suggested as your subscription is already paid for and that shouldn’t change.
Letting your existing subscription expire (or get close) and you should be able to make a purchase of Avast in much the same way you did before but with a different seller and use your Visa as the payment option.
Read Chris…'s post, especially
And as Chris… said.
And the image, Update Your Payment details, you would also need to follow the FAQ link given by chris… FAQ.
It should also be noted, as user2944 says
but I still do not have an answer as to how I change from Paypal to Visa for my payment with Avast. Managing my payment in the Payment Centre doesn’t allow for me to do this.
I confirm that this is not possible (see my latest screenshot). The change can only be made to indicate a new payment card, not PayPal->Payment card.
Furthermore, some users have posted here that simply changing the credit card did not work (error message or infinite loop).
However, I will remain vigilant before the expiration date because there is no guarantee that avast will not use my PayPal account to renew the subscription via PayPal and another distributor.
After all, I chose PayPal with avast and not Digital River, so there is nothing to prevent avast from switching me to PayPal using another vendor or avast/Gen itself.
If user2944 has closed his PayPal account, he should be able to wait until the exp date. Avast will certainly ask him (as it has been doing lately) to update his bank details. It remains to be seen whether Avast will have sorted out all these shaky situations by then.
I also think that for the moment, it’s a lost cause to get them to escalate the issue.

Thanks for the clarification Chris, you would have hoped that Avast would be putting this on a very high priority, given these are paying customers.
Who may well just jump ship to another product.
As an Avast Free user I’m untroubled by this hassle, I wonder of others may go down this route.
There are also other options - Amazon and other vendors that sell legitimate Avast subscriptions, though care is required to ensure they are legit. I get PC Pro regularly and they also offer fixed term licenses at very reasonable prices.
I would have liked to see more involvement from avast employees on this forum to sort out the undeniable billing/refund/unsubscription issues that are having a significant impact on users’ wallets.
It started off well, but nothing has happened since.
I couldn’t agree more, some customer care members (monitoring the Community Forum), if there is such a thing now and not bloody AI Chat bots, etc.
The Avast Support site is like a circular maze leading nowhere and just adds to the frustration.
