Changing User Permission on the "Program Files" folder, Avast denies.

Yo!

System;
Windows 7, x64 - Avast 2014 (Free).

So I’ve been using Avast for as long as I can remember now, but this one things bugs the hell out of me. I need full control over the “Program Files” folder, taking control over "Program Files (x86) ain’t no problem.

Do I need to uninstall it in order to take control over the folder or will Avast immediately change the permissions once its been re-installed? Or how do we do this?

Avast is protecting itself as it should. Do you need control over the Avast folder

So it seems, yes I do. I need full control over every file on the system.

OK but be aware Avast will no longer be able to protect itself at all so on your head be it

Open the GUI and select settings > troubleshooting and disable self defence there

Should’ve been the first place to look even though I’d never thought I’d be given the option to disable it, thank you very much my friend.

No, it is the self-defense module you wish to disable. All active resident shields can be left active, but without the self-defense module running, you risk having avast! corrupted or crippled by a malware attack. As noted by essexboy.
