Check Cloud data usage

I am normally at a rent house where I have cable and do not worry about data usage. Today I am at the house I will retire to in 3 years, 12 miles out of town where the only thing worth getting was a verizon hotspot for internet. Of course you can get 10GB a month and pay for each electron over that. In retirement this could become important, of course I know I can turn off the Cloud in Avast and then not worry. Can anyone tell me how much data usage this amounts to a month so I would know if I should turn off the Cloud, in the future. Or can someone tell me a easy way to check what that usage is, I found a windows gadget I could download but hate to add anything to my computer I do not have to. Is their a easy way to see the usage in windows? Also I should add I use the hotspot but have it feed a device called pepwave that feeds a cradlepoint router so that I can connect my computers by network cable to the ethernet port. So I would need a way to check network usage not wifi. Thanks slybo

The size of a streaming update is very very tiny…Most of the streaming updates are of 1 to 3KB…only two to three of them u get will be of 15 to 20KB
as far what i have seen it goes from 1KB to 15KB or a little more but not much at all.

So each day u get a average of 15 to 20 streaming updates consider each day the streaming update uses upto a average of 3MB so thats not much at all…or sometimes even less than that…more ever the cloud is very effective i recommend to keep it on and running all the time…it gives u the latest protection

Hmm, I get a different result. ;D

U mean the streaming updates u get are in MB’s in size??

P.S. Got 2 streaming updates just now…one of 1 KB and another one of 8KB

No, I mean you should do the math again…!!
Your result of 3 MB per day is way to much…!! ;D

+1
LOL! OK…back to topic…i was wrong. If calculated the total size of all streaming updates u get in a day its upto a average of 50KB or less than that…anyway its something around that 50 figure [sorry not to strong in oral calculation] :stuck_out_tongue:

I did some searching on google and found windows has a resource meter. Looking at that I saw avastsvc.exe use 1 to 9 bites for a few seconds and then stop. Is this the cloud? Asyn, what is your estimate of the monthly useage?

winmaltech, is that 50kb per day? Month would be 1500 or 1.5MB?

Technically,if u download something like comodo killswitch u will see avastsvc is randomly connected to avast servers and also to some third party servers…but actually it is just not taking anything up…it connects to the cloud server and whenever a stream update is uploaded to cloud the server automatically pushes it to avast users so my estimation of about 50KB should correct  also when anything is downloading intentionally or unintentionally the file rep comes in action and checks the reputation with avast server [whatever download it is i.e:user initiated download or a drive by]

winmaltech, is that 50kb per day? Month would be 1500 or 1.5MB?

Yeah! it is even a little much lesser than that.

Sorry winmaltech not up on the math, is that 50KB per day, how much is that per month?

Good estimate.

Thanks to all you, I believe you have answered my question. That is not enough per month to worry about, I will waste more than that just looking at weather reports. Thanks to all that replyed. slybo
