Checking if device is rooted

Hi everyone. My cousin asked me to check his phone which he bought 2nd hand recently. A quick google search says an app like Root checker can be used. I personally don’t like apps from authors I’ve never heard of - regardless of how many people have used it.

Does Avast Antivirus for Android have a way of telling whether the device is rooted?

For example, would the availability / lack of availability of a Firewall configuration indicate root access?

Any other “mainstream” antivirus apps have a similar feature?

Thanks.

Well, I have sent/received some emails of the developer of Root Checker (Jared Rummler):
Very responsive and a very good app for checking root, showing also which other installed app use root functions.
