Avast! v4.8

hi! i’ve just started using the latest version of avast v4.8.1195 as a on demand scanner with resident protection disabled. i have a mcafee ISS subscription and are thinking of switching to avast when that is up. i have run a few scans with it and thinks its o.k. the only problem i have with it running with mcafee, (which wont be an issue if i choose to do away with mcafee and switch to avast full time) is avast!'s
self defence kicking in when mcafee scans the .ini file, avast! detecting mcafee’s boot-time protection as a rootkit and this:

in chest files/system files there are system32 .dll files there. winsock, kernel32 and wsock32.

ive scanned them and got this:

Scanning of selected files

Program will try to scan 1 selected file(s) in the Chest

Move files to temporary folder: C:\DOCUME~1\mel\LOCALS~1\Temp_avast4_\unp44022385.tmp
FileID: 0000000005 Original file name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsock32.dll New folder: C:\DOCUME~1\mel\LOCALS~1\Temp_avast4_\unp44022385.tmp\5.dll

Scan files in the temporary folder: C:\DOCUME~1\mel\LOCALS~1\Temp_avast4_\unp44022385.tmp
C:\DOCUME~1\mel\LOCALS~1\Temp_avast4_\unp44022385.tmp\5.dll – no virus –

Action was completed successfully!

once, mcafee heuristically detected one of the above file type’s in the temp folder as a virus: new poly win32

any ideas? why are the system32 .dll files being put in there anway?

It’s not enough… disable is not enough and avast is not intended to run as on-demand only.

They’re there for backup purposes.

Sometimes, McAfee won’t be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its “Uninstall Application” if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).

cheers tech! ;D
