Chest Problem, and Avast is shutting off

Hi, I don’t know if this is the right place to post this or not, so sorry if it should be somewhere else…

The other day my computer got some kind of virus that Avast didn’t protect against for some reason. Usually it’s great, it sounds an alarm, and I move whatever it is to the chest. I received a message the other day saying the recommended action was to “Move to Chest” but the chest wasn’t working when I clicked to move the virus to the chest. It said it failed, and something with RCP or something like that. Sorry, I would have took more detailed notes if I knew about this site the other day. Now Avast is disabled every time I check it, and I have that Windows Registry Cleaner pop up window virus. It’s annoying! How do I fix this, and why is the chest not working? Is it repairable or will I have to redo my whole XP operating system? Every time I notice the A for Avast isn’t in my tray, I check to find protection disabled, then I reset it to high. Now it’s saying high, but when I click on resident protection to look the slider is on disabled!! How is that so? I think the virus is doing that! It’s not anything serious because I’m able to be here typing, probably spyware or something, but it’s totally annoying. It’s also concerning that the protection is being shut off, because then it’s not there to protect against something more serious that might come along.

When I open the chest to look in it, this is what it says in the Resume tab:

Initialization of Chest files

Action was completed with errors!

In the Errors Report Tab:
Program cannot use Chest client: (null)
—>Description: Virus chest server is not running. RPC communication failed.

Detailed Information Tab:
Initialization of Chest files

Program will try to load all Chest files from the following server: (null)

Action was completed with errors!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you post a screnshot of this popup window?
Seems that you’re using two antivirus at the same time. RPC error is generally related to that.

No, I can’t get a screen shot of that because it’s an action pop up. It’s not like a pop up ad where it’s in a web browser. This is a box that says click yes or no.

There are new developments. I downloaded a windows registry cleaner and cleaned out over 162 unwanted things. I thought that solved it; nope! I ran Avast and still viruses and still RCP error. Right now Avast won’t go on at all. I get a message saying AAVM Sub System Detected RCP Error.

After I cleaned the registry with the product I downloaded, I restarted the computer and automatically Avast started. It was a blue full screen with Windows XP in the corner and the virus protection scanning looked like a DOS like format. I’d never seen this before, so I was like cool! Avast is fighting back  It turned out I had at least 20 or more (I couldn’t keep up fast enough to count there were so many) Win32 Agent-LAP viruses, and Win32: VUNDO-GEN 49 viruses that I appeared to have successfully moved to the chest. I didn’t get a message saying the chest didn’t work like last time, it said MOVED TO CHEST. One of the viruses is a trojan and the other adware. There were incidents of the virus embedded in the Avast program I saw, as well as in windows files and throughout the temp. internet files.

It’s important to note that I was getting the RCP error before I downloaded the free registry cleaner, but I’m going to uninstall it just in case that causes future problems.

At this moment the Avast icon in the tray has a red line and when I click on it it says AAVM Sub System Detected a RCP Error. This sounds like it could be what you’re saying, there’s another anti virus running. I know I don’t have another anti virus, but I also had this windows registry cleaner virus, and the last time it forces it’s program on you; why I have no idea! I also have no idea how they get away with doing this because it totally screws your computer up. It’s PC Doctor, but I can’t find it in my system and I clicked no every time it tried to force itself upon my system. The PC Doctor registry is NOT the registry cleaner that I downloaded and used. PC Doctor is a scam. It says it’s free, and then you get it and it won’t do anything till you pay. The registry cleaner I downloaded was free and it cleaned all the registry errors.

Do you have any suggestions? I’m still getting the message that I have the viruses even though I saw them get moved to the chest during that DOS like scan that I mentioned above.

So, please, do it. To know how to post a screenshot, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=8982.0
You can use Gadwin PrintScreen to get a screenshot (http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/) or the free version of WinSnap 1.1.10 (http://www.filehippo.com/download_winsnap/?2173).

avast is disabled… or not well installed… or not working properly…
