I just downloaded and ran avast home/pro-and it wont move things or put anything in the chest-says its not open-not initialized

What OS?
Have you already changed ODBC to XML in avast4.ini?
Have you already tried a repair of Avast?
Program cannot use Chest client: (null)

windows xp home- toshiba satellite- 512 ram- lots of memory and 40 G harddrive-one year old
how do i find the repair-first time user and first time here-but very computer literate
Make sure the rpc service is running. (You can check under the Windows services)
If it is not, best is to set it to automatic, reboot, and see if the problem is solved.
If not solved:
try the repair:
control panel > add/remove > Avast > change/remove > repair
If it still fails:
For the ODBC to XML:
open avast4.ini (any textediter will do)
look for a line “Database=ODBC”
change odbc to xml
If it still fails, we have to dig deeper.
Thank you - it wasnt running and when I rebooted it was fine-sorry to have troubled you and thanku for the help…I was told about this service at a tech forum and wanted to give it a try- though I was using AG7 with out problems-but have had my blocked senders list erased over and over and cant figure out the source-
