chests

can i retrieve files that have been placed in the chest?

Yes you can, see below, but why do you want to do that ?

Open the chest, Infected Files section, right click on the file and select Restore (sends a copy to the original location) or Extract (you can send a copy to a different temporary location).

when i confirmed place in chest, it sent the entire content of the media file there and wiped it out.

What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe

  • Or check the source file using notepad C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Warning.log and copy and paste the entry.

If it is a single file then yes it would send the complete file (entire contents) there, but it most certainly ‘doesn’t wipe it out,’ it doesn’t delete.

What do you mean wipe it out and is it in the chest ?
Were there any errors displayed as when sending it to the chest.

Are you sure you sent it to the chest, there is another option, Move/Rename and that doesn’t send it to the chest, but to the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\moved folder and tags .vir to the end of the file name.
