CHKDSK reports Abaondoned Avast Files

so I started up this morning and had Windows report an unknown problem and had to run ‘chkdsk’ (after disabling my network connections). It ran the DOS mode and I was slightly alarmed to see a bunch of issues with Avast files being abandoned. Attached is the log output for the event.

As well, I have a file in the Avast temp file called ‘webshlock’. It cannot be opened except in Safe Mode (see 2nd attachment) and when you open it in safe mode it simply opens an ‘UNTITLED’ notepad event. Never seen this one before so I was curious if it is legit or should be examined by Avast techs.

NOTE: The pic is when opening the file under NORMAL logon instance, not in safe mode. Other than not getting the dialog that another process is using the file, it still opens up an ‘UNTITLED’ notepad file when done in SAFE MODE.

webshlock is part of the avast temp folder so that is legit.

As far as the error reported by chkdsk I’m not sure.

Hi UserA789,

Suggest run sfc /scannow and let it run to completion and fix anything it may find. Symptoms could also be an indication of a failing HDD.

Ya… that would explain some freezing I thought at first was due to overheating, but I really haven’t gotten allthat hot for the build I got.

Sure… its for a grandma, but it could probably hack the NSA right back. LOL 8)
