Chrome update not working

The software update for Chrome doesn’t seem to be functioning as I’d expect.

First of all, it says a newer version is available: 35.0.1916.153
My installed version is at 35.0.1916.153. Yes, that’s the same version. Chrome says it’s up-to-date, and a restart has already been done. And the Avast software has already been refreshed. Yet, it insists a newer version (which is the same!) is available.

Secondly, the Update button doesn’t do anything. Even before I upgraded Chrome and a newer version was legitimately available, the Update button seemed completely bugos. It doesn’t do anything.

This is on Windows XP. Avast was freshly downloaded literally 2 hours ago, and allowed to update itself also literally 2 hours ago. Should be a fairly recent version, to say the least

Hi thany! What antivirus software did your Windows XP have prior to installing avast? Was it Norton, mcafee, or etc? Did you run it’s removal tool of the antivirus you had on safe mode prior to installing avast?

As for present, have you tried doing a repair of avast via add/remove? If you haven’t done it, do it, and do a manual restart.

Google chrome is reporting it wrong.
The latest version is 37.0.2062.8
The problem is likely that you have old(er) hardware and the latest version(s) of Chrome will not work on it.
This is caused by the chipset instructions they are using.

I have google chrome browser installed on my Windows 7. The latest version is 35.0.1916.153 m
