Chrome_updater.exe Warning

I’m getting a warning from Avast! Free that says 44.0.2403.157_44.0.2403.155_chrome_updater.exe Digital signature not present. Downloaded by: C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe. It recommends that I abort the download and remove the file from my system now.

This happened with the last Chrome update, too. I finally had to disable Avast! until the update finished. I checked the file at Virustotal and it’s not infected. Why is Avast! doing this?

i assume this is a new file warning? … you may post a screenshot

and at the bottom of the popup is a dropp down menu, where you can select what action to take if you trust / do not trust it ?

similar to this maybe? https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=175088.msg1242978#msg1242978

Ok, that’s weird. Before I posted I searched for chrome_updater and didn’t find this thread. Now it comes up at the top of the search results!

Yes, that’s the same box.

Obviously something has changed since Avast! never complained until the last two Chrome updates. Either Google stopped signing these or Avast! changed how they felt about these files.

It is not a complaint, it is a new file warning and it give you the option to take the action you want

Your post isn’t the only one, the other link given has more responses on why it is happening.

I have been experiencing the same issue for several months. However, I think it is only on my WinXP laptop and not my Win7 tower.

Perhaps it has something to do with fading support for WinXP. Just guessing.
