Since the december update, chrome is really slow on my pc. It seems to freeze up to 10 seconds a lot of time when a page is loading.
I tested it with avast uninstalled and the issue disappear.
I’m on Windows 8.1.
Is it something you can do to fix it ? Maybe it affects only Windows 8.1 as I don’t see thread on the forum about that.
Which Avast…? (Free/Premium) Avast Free
Which version/build of Avast…? version 21.1.2449
OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?) Windows 8.1 x64 (Build 9600)
Other security related software installed…? No other security software installed
Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…? Only Avast since the last format I did
Well this definitely won’t help much, but still, maybe your computer is just crappy and it can’t handle the protection on, plus chrome is heavy on system resources and maybe, just maybe it maxes out your CPU.
I uploaded the files in the ftp server with my email address for the filename.
I put the password “virus” likes this page says : https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/160
When avast is enabled it shows something like that in the cmd window : USB: usb_device_handle_win.cc:1049 Failed to read descriptor from node connection
This message does not appear when all avast agents are disabled
thank you for your cooperation. I see freeze in chrome net log, and I try to figure out, what it caused. But I need logs from chrome and Avast together, when problem occurs.
Enable Debug logging in Avast: Menu → Settings → General (on left)-> Troubleshooting → check Enable debug logging (on bottom)
Restart Avast: Right click on Avast icon in tray - next to clock in bottom right corner → Avast shields control → click disable for 10 min, confirm ok, and then enable all shields back.
Close all chrome windows
Open command line: press Windows+r, type cmd and press enter
Copy this command to command line and press enter. (just load page with freeze; don’t play video, because debug logs can be large and rolled out)
5) open folder with saved chrome logs: copy this command to command line and press enter
explorer %LOCALAPPDATA%"\Google\Chrome\User Data\"
6) Upload files chrome_netlog.json and chrome_debug.log to ftp using https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/160
7) Send us Avast diagnostic package using https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Submit-support-file in Avast: menu -> settings -> troubleshooting -> send logs -> click Next -> fill your email and click generate (it takes a moment) -> copy File ID and post it here, or send it to me via forum message (I need to identify generated package). You can also upload package yourself to ftp with chrome logs.
8 ) disable Avast debug logging and restart Avast.
I see, there is long list, but I try to explain every step and it could help us to solve this problem. Could you help us one more time?
Can i espect that it will be fixed in the next version ? The problem seems also to impact the audio processing made by my realtek audio driver (can’t disable that in my laptop). The sound stutter everytime a new part of a video is downloaded. It’s very anoying. Thanks.
Yes, we are working on fix. For now, you can disable scanning of QUIC/HTTP3. In Settings-> Protection (left column) → Core Shields → Web Shield (in middle, 3rd tab) → uncheck Enable QUIC/HTTP3 scanning.
