Chrome

10 minutes ago I was browsing the web with Chrome, when Avast popped up a message, suggesting to install Chrome. I thought, it did not check if I already have it. Then 5 minutes ago, when I re-opened Chrome, Windows: File does not exist.

My question is: Why did avast remove Chrome?

It did…?? Are you sure…??

Considering the fact that I did not remove, and nothing else I can think about could have happened in 5 minutes, I do think avast did it. Is there any way to see if it did for real?

Strange…
Reboot your system, is chrome still gone…??

Weird… Restarted, Chrome is here. But it kind of reinstalled itself, because I have my history (by default it does not get deleted upon uninstalling Chrome). But extensions (I only use adBlock Plus Beta + Avast WebRep which avast reinstalled with Chrome I guess) so it’s just a click to get it back again) were removed.

Thanks for the tip. It’s still a bit of a mystery though.

You’re welcome…!
Did you allow avast! to install chrome…??
If so, maybe it installed over your existing installation. Just a guess, though.

I just clicked the on the popup, since I already had it installed.

Sorry, no idea what happend then… :-\

Same thing happened to me, my user install got deleted; my settings/bookmarks are lost. Thanks avast. Bye.

Well… You’ve done something wrong… Why do you ever think avast is responsible for that?

The only thing I did was to close the information message telling me to use Chrome. I bet i should have stared at it for hours …

Well… I can’t think in other thing than downloading Chrome again and reinstalling it.
