Downloaded updated version of Internet Security, and AVAST automatically installed Google Chrome, which I do not want, and made it my Default browser without my permission. Who gave you permission, AVAST, to make such changes to my system ???
This isn’t the first time Avast has done this. It was argued a couple versions ago where people were told “you must’ve missed something during the installation”, but there was nothing to miss. Just like this time, no chance to say I don’t want Chrome, it was just installed and made the default.
can’t believe they did it again after the fallout from the last time >:(
Is it possible you didn’t read all the screens carefully during installation?
Avast ASKS whether you want Chrome, and checkboxes are set to do so by default, but I’ve never seen it install it if you uncheck them.
Please read all the installation screens very carefully or they will slip things in on you.

Download the program in my screenshot. Works great.
I updated avast antivirus today and it tried to install dropbox. You are right, if you argue, that one can uncheck the preselect install-checkbox, but i don’t understand, why avast is doing this, especially, because i have pro and pay for it. What they want is crystal clear, they hope you trust avast and press the “finish the installation”-Button without further notice and BAM you have bloatware on your computer. This is maybe common for free software or shareware to earn some money, but a for a security software, especially if its payed that is a clearf “no go”.
Continuing with this means for avast to loose reputation and ends into “don’t use avast products, they want to install bloatware too”.
Apparently they’re okay with that.
Clearly they’re doing it with their eyes open.
Keep yours open too.

The current beta release will give those who use the paid version the opportunity to stop notifications of these types of ad-on requests.
This feature will be included in the next release of avast in the paid versions. ![]()
Funny you should ask… there were no checkboxes offered during the update. So no, it’s not possible I didn’t read ALL the screens carefully during the installation. The questions asked were “update now” and “reboot now”. Upon reboot, chrome was installed… and immediately uninstalled.
Maybe Avast asks about Chrome during a new installation but for this upgrade I was not asked.
In every installation I’ve seen the question is asked right after the reboot.

Unless Chrome is already installed on the system. (It doesn’t need to be the default browser.)
It could also have been previously installed and improperly removed where the registry still
shows traces of the install.
That explains it. I never, ever have installed Google’s software. Perhaps Avast duped paflyer into putting in Chrome in a past install.
