Hello Mnemonic.
I’ve been had the same problem here and also posted an entry in in this forum on it yesterday.
Let’s hope they fix this.
I have this problem as well. :o
Been trying for days to get this to work. Won’t go past the second step. Resolve doesn’t work.

I got stuck to the first stage for about an hour, then 3 - 4 more hrs the second till I halted it.
It certainly does…I’ve been using it without a problem until the February upgrade.
The first time I tried the registry optimization post upgrade it got stuck for an hour. I shut down, an hour later re started ony to find I couldn’t log into Windows. Long story short but I had to use a system image to get going again.
Tried it last week and got stuck again although it restarted fine.
And the clean up itself is to aggressive now - everythime I use it I end up having to log into everything again which is a pain as I am currently travelling ad Wifi is very slow.
Please roll this back to pre the Februaru upgrade. It was great but something is very wrong now.
Update to the latest version (17.3.2291): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=199715.0
Has anyone tested the most recent version after creators update ?
I still haven’t tried to optimize the registry step in fear of losing my microsoft account again.
Your Microsft account and CleanUp have nothing to do with each otter at all.
Wrong.
Last two times I tried to optimize registry(previous versions) I wasn’t able to log into my windows account, as did many other people.
No, you are wrong.
Microsoft account is for the MS website (and some other things), it is not a account on your system.
On a note:
The problem has been fixed.
Again, you absolutely have no idea what you are talking about.
My microsoft activation key is tied to my microsoft account as I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7. The only way I can use windows 10 in a case of a reinstall is if I log in with my microsoft account which in turn is tied to my user account. The registiry optimization feature of clean up does some stuff with user keys(as you can see in the details whhen you click on registry optimization) which previously compromised my user account.
