Cleanmymac X issue

Hello everyone,

So, I bought my Macbook pro about a year ago. and shortly afterwards i bought Cleanmymac X.

Everything was working fine untill just less than a week ago when I noticed the app was bugging a little bit.
I clicked on the app’s icon on the top right of the screen. It wasn’t allowing me to open the app and it was telling me that I only had the trial version of the app. At the time I just ignored it, turned the computer off, and went to bed.

The next day I open the laptop and the icon on the top left was gone. I tried to open the app through finder - applications and the app’s icon had this big prohibited sign over it. I double clicked it and got this message telling me the app was “damaged or incomplete”. I tried downloading and installing the app again through macpaw’s website. When I tried installing it I got a popup from my free version of Avast’s security telling me the app contained a virus… I was a bit shocked. It didn’t let me install it so I downloaded the app from apple’s app store. Same thing happened.

I emailed the guys at macpaw telling them about this a few days ago but haven’t received an email back.
Tried searching for avast’s people and landed on this forum. Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Hi,

at this moment there are some marginal issues for PUP flagging, nothing big but there are some problems.
For example AppEsteem as PUP/PUA authority flagged it also like deceptor.

Anyway this is Potential Unwanted Program, not malware or adware…

Thanks! So the app isn’t dangerous?

No but can be very annoying

I see. Didn’t know about this “potentially unwanted program” thing. Nice to learn. Thanks so much for the help.

Thought Cleanmymac was legit but I’ve been reading that a lot of mac users actually advise against it.

I emailed them back yesterday. Still haven’t replied… Weird.
