Since installing avast!, when I click on embedded links in email messages, I get the following error:
“Windows cannot find ‘http://someurl.com’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again.” (someurl.com is just a placeholder example…)
If I copy the URL, and paste it into the browser I can open the URL fine.
I’m running Avast 4.8 Home Edition
Vista w/SP2
Microsoft Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606
Firefox 3 Beta 5 is my default browser
Any suggestions appreciated!
Hi Bradsl!
Did you also have an other security program installed (firewall, antivirus, antispyware,…)?
avast shouldn’t block any links out of an email program - such problems are usually caused by a firewall…
but if you haven’t got a firewall (or only the windows firewall) we have to search whats wrong…

avast isn’t a blocker but a scanner and would alert if infection is found but it doesn’t block.
Does windows live mail not have any security settings that might block clicking links in emails ?
I know OE6 had some quirky security settings stopping the saving of attachments which it considered possibly at risk, this even included zip files.
What happens if you switch your default browser to say IE spit I know it goes against the grain but worth a try ?
Solution: AVG had not completely uninstalled, so had to kill all AVG processes manually, run the AVG uninstall again, and NOW everything works properly.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Brad
