I have installed the ADNM on my win xpPro machine, and pushed a silent install to a couple of test clients. Although the client install was sucessful, and after a reboot, the Avast! tray icon comes up on the client machine, and is running multiple scanners. The problem is that on the pc with the ADNM, it is not updating the client info in the computer catalog, therefore I cannot run a remote scanner, etc.
Thanks,
Mike

Check the logs on the clients. E.g. the Windows Event Log, antivirus category.
Also, make sure the ADNM is installed on a machine with no firewall installed. It may be blocking the incoming traffic.

I too am experiencing this problem. I just installed the Beta for ADNM last week (on a Windows 2003 Server), and deployed Avast! to three clients (two are XP Pro SP2, the other is Win2K SP4)…but none of them are updated in the client catalog. I checked the Event Logs on each client, under the AntiVirus category, but there were no errors.
Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!

Is the avast NetAgent service running on the clients?
Also, what is the value of the ServerAddress= line in \data\avast4.ini (on the clients)? Does it have the correct server name in it?
Thanks

Yes, the NetAgent service is started.

Yes, the ServerAddress= line (on the clients) has the correct server name (in the form of myserver.mydomain.com).
Thanks for the quick reply btw ;D

Found something that may relate to the problem…
On the ADNM server (Windows 2003 server), I’m getting the following warnings in Event Viewer (AntiVirus category):
Received MSG_POP message from client with invalid size: 000002A8 bytes.
The warnings are being logged at the rate of about one per minute.

Interesting. What version of AMS and clients do you have?
Please check this page http://www.avast.com/eng/latest_program_versi.html and make sure both AMS and clients have the latest version of the program installed.
Thanks

Client Version: Build: Nov2004 (4.5.245)
ADNM Version: Build: RC-2 (4.5.165)
I’m not positive on where I can find the AMS version…but the version of the file “avEngine.exe” is 4.0.7.1, with a last modified date of Sept 22, 2004…perhaps that’s not the latest? I just downloaded the Beta installer last week, so…?
Thanks again!

The AMS is outdated (165 is quite old).
Just update it, as described in the manual (in short, it’s in Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → avast Management Tools → Change/Remove → Update).

Well, I feel bad. I hate it when the answer seems so obvious. Thanks so much for your help, and for bearing with me ;D
Looking forward to the final release, so I can send some money your way!

Does that mean that updating to the latest build solved the problem?

Thank you both, great help.
The obvious somtimes pervades us.
I updated the ADNM as well, and it picked up the client computers with no problem.
Thanks again,
Mike
