Just got rid of a win32Trojan-Gen(VB), wondering if it is possible to close a port to stop future virus infections ??

You should close ALL 65536 ports on your router/firewall and open only those who are really needed.

If you use a good firewall (software) and a good antivirus, you should get a good level of protection.
An antispyware won’t harm too 8)

Read the help/instructions on your firewall. it is explained there.

Which software firewall do you use?
Do you use only the hardware (router) one? If so, the manual of the hardware.

It all depends on your firewall, if you’re a basic user, and haven’t yet had the chance to download/buy a firewall, you connection may use the default windows firewall, in which is very simple to change, all you need to do is:
Start
Dial-Up Connection

  • Left click your connection.
  • Click advanced.
  • Click settings.
    And change the port, it’s more or less simple for you.
