As far as I am aware the cnet and softonic installers automatically install pups together with the chosen download. How ironic that AVAST free version 2014 can only be downloaded by these installers. My advice would be to avoid these installers like the plague. Otherwise you are likely to be in trouble…

I just downloaded the avast free antivirus 2014 installer from these locations and checked the MD5. All are the exact same installation package.

What pup’s are being installed? Please show some evidence of this. It is already know that avast recommends Chrome.

Even if your statement was true, avast has the option of a Custom install , you choose what is installed.

You are incorrect as has been shown, avast free can be downloaded direct from avast.
