Cnet

So was using my moms friend pc, installed avast from cnet, ran avast , unsigned file O_O (30mb, yes avast usually is 80mb)
downloaded it and got a sign file
not the first time this happened, it happened with malwarebytes and other legit program (so much that malwarebytes had a discussion about it)
i think cnet cant monitor their large site and no i can bother to send a sample
happy new year btw

Why even download from CNet in the first place when you can get the latest copies here on the forum.

I’ve never trusted CNet for years now, all the issues with repacking installers and the suspicious tactics used to trick people into clicking elsewhere other than the wanted download has made them one of the most untrusted download sites I know of.

I would never trust any download from that place. The product information and reviews are not worth reading . If you need to find software, use a search engine.

The problem with that is the search engine brings up CNet and unsuspecting people get sucked in.

One of the best download sites I use is FileHippo if I am unable to first download via the vendors website without being re-directed to a dodgy download hosting site like CNet.

Nothing wrong with download.com (Cnet)
Just remember to use their direct download link not the one that includes their downloader.

That’s the whole point of this discussion Bob, Cnet tries to fool you into downloading their installer which is bundled with their rubbish, sneaky tactics and suspicious activities by this download host places them at about the same level as Iobit in my eyes.

We already know that there is no such thing as a free lunch any more.
Always be cautious always read and always use custom install.
That even goes for installing avast!.
If you don’t then sooner or later, you’ll wind up with an unpleasant surprise.
Happy 2014

I agree with what your saying there but your still defending Cnet for these tactics, as I mentioned they should be shunned for these practices as everyone can easily get their downloads from more reputable hosting sites such as FileHippo that don’t bundle crap into their downloads and also don’t use trickery to fool people into clicking on the wrong download button.

Happy 2014 to you also

I’m not defending any site. Simply stating a fact.

+1
i went to avast official site to get the free version and it relocated me to cnet

I never had trouble with Cnet. It is legit and safe to download from there.
