Co-Existance of Avas Free and MalwareBytes Free

Sir / Knowledgeble Helpers,

I want to know if Avast Free antivirus and Malwarebytes Free can be installed on the same Computer. Will there be a Conflict? For example Avira and Avast cannot be used on the same machine. Avira takes control from Avast after avast detects a virus and Avast sacrifices and yields to Avira’s Invalid Hold.

Kindly provide this info as I require to make a decision. The reason for this question is because Avast failed to detect a malware /a spyware “Searchgol” and “Delta Search”. I had to remove them manually.

Thanks in advance.

Avast and Malwarebytes work fine together as Malwarebytes isn’t an antivirus, Avira is an antivirus which is why it wont work with avast.

Works great on my computer, my 2 programs that I use for protection, both are my old reliable’s that I would not change.

These can be removed with AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes

MBAM free doesn’t have any resident (on-access) protection, so there’s no problem. I’ve never used MBAM Pro, so can’t comment from personal experience, but others here say that one’s no problem either.

When I run an MBAM on-demand scan, typically a quick scan once a week, I’m in the habit of temporarily turning off avast’s file shield first, which speeds up the MBAM scan a little since that way the two aren’t to some extent scanning the same things at the same time.

Both work well together, only sometimes updates will trigger avast to flag the mbamswissarmy.sys system file used by malwarebytes, you can add it as an exception or once reported it will be fixed in the next update.
Also note when you use the pro version of malwarebytes you may come across
malwarebytes has blocked:

IP: xxxxx
Port:xxxxx
avast.exe

its not that malwarebytes is blocking avast but this:

I have used the Pro version of Malwarebytes and have avast in my desktop. There has been no conflicts from either programs.

Just to sure, add the Avast folder to malwarebytes “Ignore” list. Add the Malwarebytes folder to the global exclusions of Avast.

Version 2014.9.0.2008 seem to have a somewhat different interface as the instructions linked to by Bob above. (which references v6 and 7) I see exclusion options under Settings, and then both Active Protection as well as Antivirus. What is the difference between setting exclusions in these two areas, and should I do both? I am using MBAM Pro and Avast Free, thanks.

The exclusions in settings are Global so they are excluded from all shields, the other exclusion areas are only to exclude from that particular shield.

Also note that 2014.9.0.2008 is an old version, you should update to 2014.9.0.2011.

@kramyugtaht see my sig below and I have Avast Free and MBAM Pro side by side together with no glitch, problem or issue and they work prefect together as a team protection

Thanks Craig and Speedy, I think I will be happy with this combo.

No problem, avast and MBAM are a good combination

I also see both of you have MCShield in your sig, think I will try that out as well!

MCShield is also a nice addition, it sits there quietly waiting for any usb device to be inserted and scans it almost instantly, you wont be disappointed

Glad I came to this forum to ask or else I wouldn’t have noticed! I added the file path in Avast and MBAM but didn’t find any reference to URL like the one for MBAM, and MCShields forum is not in English! I tried to click update manually and it didn’t pop up anything with Avast so I’m guessing that is enough?

Yes its all automatic, no need to adjust anything.

If you don’t want the popups from MCShield when you start your system tick the box in the pic

I’ve never used the url exclusions for MBAM, not necessary imo.

The auto-update feature in MCShield makes it a perfect set-it and forget it.
And the pop-ups are there and gone in an instant. 8)

@kramyugtaht MCShield is another great combination for USB protection along side with Avast as well
