College network problems after upgrading to Pro

Hi. I upgraded to Avast Pro 2015 a few days ago since I got a good deal for being a long time free user and I like the software.
However since upgrading I cannot access my college’s website when I am on the college internet network and logged in as a student. I can access the website on my home network and the guest network, however this is really not optimal as I need to be using the site during lectures since most of the material and tests are done online.

I narrowed it down to being avast, since if I disable all the shields I can use the website fine on the school network. But if I leave them on I only get “Connection timed out” errors and the pages never load. It does not seem to affect any other websites I visit.
I’d rather not have to shut off my antivirus to do schoolwork, so any tips are really appreciated! If its unfixable I might have to downgrade, but I hope that won’t be the case.

  • Which version of Avast Pro…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Oh right, should’ve included this info right off the bat. My bad.

Avast Pro version 2015.10.2.2215
Windows 8 64bit
Also installed: MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Free 2.0.2.1028
The computer I’m using came with a trial version of McCafee when I first got it, but I uninstalled it immediately and started using Avast.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Pro Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
