somehow since installing this all my com ports are blocked (actually everything was blocked from internet to accessing my cellular phone .i’ve recovered most but my com port *ill rant on this later)
im trying to revert to my old situation , where everything worked
i think it causing problems with peerguardian and spybot
someone know a quick fix ?
(searching on com is a bit pointless :X i tried )
This what? avast?
Oh, it’s not possible as avast is not a firewall, just scan, does not block anything.
No, avast! works perfectly with SpyBot and PeerGuardian… This is not the trouble.
Which firewall do you use?
If you disable avast! WebShiedl, does it help in anyway?
Serial ports!? :o :o
I didn’t notice that it could be a hardware conflict! :
You should give us a detailed information about what’s happening or we won’t be able to help you… Oh, by the way, my dinner time… I’m leaving for a while.
i didnt say avast blocked it …but since rebooting they were blocked

i agree , it shouldnt be the problem …but a bit more reservedness please (re: not possible / IS not ) i suspect it to be the problem
i found a problem … near nothing worked (FF, IE, mail, internet, microsoft activesynch, com ports …)
when i disbled everything of avast , peerguardian and spybot , i could email , and internet again…
even in IT 1+1 = 0 *

by head something like this , and with a whoooooooole lot of steps removed
installed avast
few days later rebooted
find heck
disable avast
uninstall avast {didnt help}
reinstall avast , and disable it (well . 4-6 cycled a few times allong with booting and all )
think i humored myself and ran spybot (trying to disable avast from booting)
8 found out that disbling peerguardian and spybot gave me back the connection
9 tried the extra uninstall tool
X settled on running avast with everything disabled . peerguardian disabled and spybot running… since i didnt want to ruin a third evening
spybot 1.3
peerguardian 2
autoupdate numberless xp firewall …
avast 4
xp 5.1.2600
Thanks
i’ll check back in the morning if there is something clever that i’m overlooking …goodnight
(oh , and no i didnt change any hardware, other settings, etcetc …just in case someone askes :') )
Coz, as I’ve said, avast is not a firewall, just scan, does not block anything. I’m not so sure that a firewall could block the COM ports. Maybe, I’m not an expert on firewall.
I see no relation between avast! and your COM ports being blocked.
Can you post a screenshot of your hardware devices? (Control Panel > System > Hardware > choose the option to see the components)
