Comcast, Desktop Doctor and JS Feebs Family

I’ve had occasion to install Comcast internet connection software 4 times in the last 10 days. Every single time I’ve done it, I get a message saying that their installed support software needs to be updated and asking me to click to install. Immediately after I click, I get a message saying that Avast has detected JS Feebs Family. Every single time.

I’ve spoken to Comcast about this and they say it must be a problem with AVAST.

BTW, the updated software it installs is called Desktop Doctor.

This last time I installed (never let it be said that I just don’t learn) I did not click okay to download Comcast’s support update. I then received a message saying Comcast was no longer using their old support software and encouraged me to update.

Nuh-uh. What I did was to delete every trace of their old support software from my computer (it pinged Comcast about every 15 minutes) and I have had no more virus/trojan/downloader/keylogger issues since my last install.

Coincidence? Comcast says yes.

I say you have done the right thing in getting rid of it. I won’t have anything on my system that would act in that way, I’m in charge of my computer security.

But do bear in mind that the protection it offers can be achieved by other means, ones that are under your own control.

No, I don’t. I really don’t need something that records my mail and internet settings on my system. Especially if it touches base with a parent company on a regular basis. I might as well operate without antivirus or firewall protection.
