I only have Avast Antivirus Free with Windows 10 on this old laptop, but but I just entered sleep mode and closed the lid on the laptop. I waited a short time and opened the laptop, it almost instantly displays my desktop where it was before I selected sleep mode on the laptop including Avast running.
I tried some searches related to your title, but wasn’t very productive. So I reversed the logic ‘How to stop Avast closing when you enter sleep mode’.

Did you check out the second link I gave to stop windows 11 from closing avast when you go into sleep mode ?
As if avast is effectively restarting it is going to be using more ram/cpu resources when it starts as it is going to be scanning all running programs, checking for program/VPS 9Virus Pattern Signatures) updates. That should reduce later.
