I run NortonAntiVirus2004 and Pest Patrol … I think I’m safe, however, my brother said he downloaded Avast home edition and it found a virus Norton didn’t detect!
My question is … is Avast compatabile with Norton and/or other programs will they work together?
Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
“Better” and free! How does that work … or is the Pro that much better yet?
This forum is really great. This past year, after buying NortonAntiVirus2004 … I read the installation instructions and it says to install over 2003 … WRONG and then, insult to injury as their how-to needs to be revised, I had to pay $30. for phone tech support to sort out the mess, not to mention the hours on the phone and the increase in my blood pressure
Hello, I personally rely totally on avast! and have had no problems, except those arising out of my own inexperience. I’ve tried Norton and AVG but avast! is my favourite. But I do like to run an on-line scan now and then, so maybe that is an option for you, if you like to “double-check” occasionally. But don’t forget to temporarily pause avast! when you run an online scan. (and don’t forget to turn it back on afterwards!) cheers!
Besides the on-line scanning, you can use ‘backup’ scanning as a second one, I mean, you can install a second antivirus application without residents (providers). For instance: Bit Defender.
One user called bbfi can guide you for two or three more ‘backup’ scanners ;D
I have read all the messages about the compatability of Norton and Avast and duly noted what has been said. I run Norton Antivirus at the moment and McAfee Firewall and am having constant problems with Norton, which I think are incompatibility problems between the two. I am therefore thinking of taking on Avast! instead of Norton - can anyone tell me, please, if there is likely to be a compatability problem between Avast!4 and McAfee, as I really do want to have a firewall, and having paid for it would rather not have to get rid of McAfee as well as Norton!!
Generally there’s no known incompatibility between avast and a firewall. Only two antiviruses cause problems; avast + FW (generally any brand) is fine.
Ok… some integrated (systemworks) applications bring trouble even the antivirus part is not installed… You know what I’m talking about. Norton Internet Security could bring a lot of trouble with avast (not only Norton Antivirus)
Other Symantec applications work fine and were very very good (GoBack, Speed Disk, Ghost, CleanSweep…). All of them are compatible with avast.
