Compatibility With Dual and Dual duo Core Processors

Greetings :),

i’m Ken and i’m not really acquainted with computer world, just a guy needing to use computers to study and work, so please forgive me if my words sound stupid to any of you.
I just would like to ask:
i read in a posting in www.linux.com once that many anti viruses meant for linux based os couldn’t work properly in a computer running under double and quadruple processors, like the dual cores and the dual duo cores processors. Does this still happen to Avast’ latest anti virus for linux, the home edition?

Thank you very much for your kind attention. Waiting for your explanation.
                                                                                                                                                         Ken

This is an old information… not sure if it is still valid…

No, avast! doesn’t use multiple cores right now, at least not for a single scan (you can run any number of scans simultaneously, however, and they will be multithreaded).

I think some kind of multi-core support will be implemented - when the “usual” number of cores on a personal computer is higher than 2. The thing is: we don’t think than an antivirus should take as much resources as possible - but rather sit on background, do its job, preferably without the user noticing any slowdowns. I believe we could make the scan a bit faster (though I don’t think the speedup would be very significant) by taking all CPU/HDD resources possible; but you wouldn’t be able even to move your mouse cursor during the scan, the computer would be dead… which I believe is not a good idea.
