Compatibility With Mandriva, Dual Processors, and several others

Hi :),

I,m Ken. I’m not a computer expert, just a guy needing that thing to study and work. Also, i’m new to linux. So please do forgive me for all my minuses, flaws.

I’d like to ask:

1.I’m currently using Mandriva 2008.1 in my Acer 4710 laptop. Will Avast anti virus for Linux home edition work in this Mandriva 2008.1?

2.Avast claims several features in its for linux home edition, including “simple using/interface”. Where or how can i see exactly how the graphical interface
looks like, including how the interface actually manage or show up all the features included in this home edition?

3.If i use Avast free anti virus for Linux home edition, will i still entitled to get technical support from the manufacturer? Many other anti virus
manufacturers don’t give technical support whatsoever to users of their free products. Only to the users of their commercially sold products.

4.I read in a posting in www.Linux.com once, saying that many anti viruses meant for Linux won’t work well or not at all totally in computers running using
dual core and dual duo core processors. Has this problem been addressed and solved in Avast’ free anti virus for Linux home edition?

Thank you very much. Waiting for your explanation.

                                                                                                                                                                      Ken

Hallo,

  1. in the case that there’s no hidden flaw in this distribution, it should work like a charm.

  2. hmm, for example here (or browse through this forum a bit): http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18020.msg153136#msg153136

  3. yes, at least here

  4. from the process’s point of view, dual-core and singl-core machines don’t differ - thus, all kernel-independent malware will still work. EM64T/x86-64 is different thing, and yes, here might have the old IA-32 binaries problems (depends on a particular technique used in their code).

regards,
pc

No problems with Mandriva 2008.1…BUT LINUX VERSION (RPM package) not the Windows one!!!
