I am having trouble downloading Windows Vista Sp2 update and would like to uninstall Avast Home to try again and then reinstall using the same product key? Please give detailed instructions ,after using Program Uninstall should I delete all folders (hidden folders also),should I turn off protection before uninstall, and will I have trouble if I try to use old product key after reinstalling? Thanks for any help,I have never used this forum before, hope I’m in the right place?
An installation from the scratch:
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
- Boot.
- Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there.
- Boot.
- Download, save and install the latest avast! version. It will be good to accept the boot time scanning on next boot.
- Boot.
- Check and post the results.
No.
No, the key is valid for 14 moths since it was generated.
Hi Tech
I just copied that down to my malware folder as a sticky.
You wouldn’t believe it I just did an uninstall reinstall for someone and what a hassle trying to copy the registration key to use again - I couldn’t copy and paste it. When I wrote it down, I got a fail - invalid key. So we just got another key through email.
Are you saying that the key gets inherited when new installation is set up - I mean inside running, you dont have to key it in manually?
If you do not uninstall the old version, yes, the key will be inherited.
On contrary, if you uninstall, the new installation will be performed as a trial one, with a trial key.
Oh okay. No problem. I think I would go for complete uninstallation using the uninstaller in the latest version. That looks a very sound method.
Hi,
I’m facing a problem in the same area.
Recently I had to reinstall my computer -thus formatting everything. Before this I copied the Avast folder to an external harddrive, and I then wanted to copy it back to my pc afterwards.
Unfortunately after I copied the folder to my pc again, when I want to run a scan the system asks for my license key - and the one that was given to me is being rejected.
Would you have any guess as to what might be causing this “error”?
Cheers
Jes
Do you use Home or Pro?
If Home, go here http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php
And apply for key through lost registration key option.
If it is the Pro version, contact sales(at)avast(dot)com
